About Pilates

What Is Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on building strength, flexibility, and body awareness through controlled movements. The practice emphasizes core strength, targeting the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, and pelvis, which are crucial for overall stability and posture. Pilates exercises can be performed on a mat or using specialized equipment, which uses springs and pulleys for resistance. All movements are modifiable, challenging your body in a safe and effective way.

The Equipment

REFORMER

A Reformer is a piece of exercise equipment used in Pilates workouts to provide resistance and support for various movements that target strength, flexibility, balance, and posture. It consists of a sliding carriage mounted on a rectangular frame, with springs attached to control resistance. The Reformer allows for both low-impact and intense workouts, and it’s widely used for core strengthening, overall conditioning, and even physical therapy.

Chair

A Pilates Stability Chair (also known as a Wunda Chair or simply a Pilates Chair) is a compact piece of Pilates equipment designed to challenge balance, strength, and flexibility— especially for the core, legs, and upper body. It looks like a small bench or box with a split or single pedal that moves under spring-loaded resistance. Compared to the Reformer, the Chair is smaller and more challenging in terms of balance, making it excellent for advanced core work.

It looks like a raised bed or table with a metal frame that arches over it, outfitted with a variety of bars, springs, and straps. It’s used for both rehabilitative and advanced exercises, offering nearly endless variations for strengthening, stretching, and alignment. The Cadillac is most commonly used in private sessions for complete customization.
